Meet Katherine Pearce, Santa Rosa Acupuncturist

Katherine is a licensed acupuncturist with a Master's Degree in Chinese Medicine. She is licensed by the State of California and the NCCAOM and has been practicing in California, London and Wales for the last 18 years. In 2017, she joined Sonoma Cancer Support at Sonoma Valley Hospital working with people going through cancer treatment. Katherine also has offices in Santa Rosa and Forestville where she sees people who are interested in using her mind body approach to aid their healing and growth.

Originally trained as a social worker in the UK, Katherine was introduced to acupuncture in 1991 while living in New York City. At the time, she was suffering from debilitating sinus headaches and struggling with stress. After just a few acupuncture treatments her sinus headaches disappeared and have never returned and "I felt a clarity and relaxation that allowed me to handle the stress of life much more effectively," she says.

This led to a study of Chinese Medicine.                                                                             To understand how this medicine had helped her, Katherine enrolled in a medical anthropology class looking at various cultures' medical systems and their different ways of addressing ill health. She then embarked on a four year Masters Degree in Chinese Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego. Since 1999, Katherine has had a full time practice and has given thousands of treatments to patients with widely varying conditions.

Acupuncture, mindfulness and dreamwork.                                                                            For 12 of her 18 years in practice, Katherine worked with a physician who specialized in integrative health for patients suffering with chronic disease and who wanted a more holistic approach to their medical concerns. She has also undertaken an in-depth study on the influences of the mind on the body. "I have taken mindfulness workshops studying how working with the mind can be used to aid health and well-being in the body," says Katherine. Her path involved years of Jungian therapy, including work shops in dream work and Jungian theory on working with the unconscious." I use dreamwork when appropriate to help patients look at how unconscious material may be creating obstacles to realizing their optimal health and happiness, " says the Santa Rosa acupuncturist.

Katherine recently spent four years back in Wales, where she grew up, bringing acupuncture to areas that were less familiar with Chinese medicine. She now lives with her husband in Santa Rosa and enjoys hiking, cooking healthy meals and is an avid reader of books that are still printed on paper!

With awareness in the mind and relaxation in the body comes the untangling of stress and unhealthy patterns of thought and action leading to aliveness, health, creativity, and a developing sense of meaning and growth. Many people experience a deepening of relationships with others and themselves.
